Summer '09 Anthems

{May your summer be filled with ice cream and Mexicans}

I am riding in from the sunset on my noble steed, coming to your rescue with the songs to which you should be rocking out this summer. You're welcome.

1. "Battlefield" by Jordin Sparks: this song is seriously so epic and magnificent. I recommend yelling the chorus at the top of your lungs in public for ultimate catharsis. I'm so proud of her, even if she spells "Jordin" the way she does. (The wrong way)

2. "OPP" by Naughty by Nature: okay, so the other day Alex and I drove to get frozen yogurt at Maverick (a mere $1.39--small price to pay for euphoria!) and we blasted this and felt/looked/were AWESOME.

3. "Boom Boom Pow" by Black Eyed Peas: yes, I know, you're probably hearing about this song first here on my blog, but it is so good that it HAS to be a Summer Jam. Just don't try to copy Fergie's swaggah.

4. "Don't Forget" by Demi Lovato: don't laugh! This song is excellent! Demi is like a rich man's Miley!

5. "Carry on my Wayward Son" by Kansas: this song came on my pod today when I was walking home from campus with the sun a-shining and the quails a-chirping, and I was awestruck at how perfect and summer-y it sounded in my ears.

6. "Rockin the Suburbs" by Ben Folds: Ben Folds is always indubitably kick@$$--remember when it was so cool to do that? Let's bring it back. Plus this song shouts out to Jon Bon Jovi, and he is always a part of awesome things.

7. "Heartless" by Kris Allen: we already know how I feel about this one. Hint: I feel good about it.

8. "Take on Me" by A-Ha: this is perhaps the greatest '80s song. Perhaps.

9. "July, July!" by the Decemberists: hey look, even the title is about summer!

10. "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield: doesn't 'Nam remind you of summertime?

11. "867-5309: Jenny" by Tommy Tutone: this song has never not been cool. Unless that's actually your phone number, which I'm sure guarantees about a thousand drunk dials a night.

12. "Hot in Herre" by Nelly: hello, this song is all about heat. Isn't it?

So there you have it: twelve songs to put on repeat all summer long. Which songs would you add to this already fairly thorough list?

LONG LIVE THE KING

KRIS ALLEN IS OUR AMERICAN IDOL!

I know, I was 100% Team Lambert all season, but Kris's "Heartless" melted my cold, cynical heart into pure, liquid gold. Plus I think Kris needs the extra publicity to make him the next Carrie Underwood, so to speak--please don't let him become David Cook/Taylor Hicks/Fantasia!--while Adam will obviously achieve mind-blowing fame even without the Idol crown.

Plus Kris is just so freakin CUTE

Six things I would rather do than my Spanish homework

1. Watch "Millionaire Matchmaker"

2. Google Pharrell Williams

3. Make playlists for da pod--finally a place where the hits of both Sugar Ray and Nelly can coexist!

4. Upload hilarious wanksta Coolpix from this weekend

5. Ride my Vespa, Shadowfax, around Provo

6. Watch paint dry
