I love Thanksgiving Break...the actual day is great, with all the heaviest, sleep-inducing food I can eat and the gathering of family and friends and the cutthroat game-playing...but I love the whole week. No school, no worries, just catching up with friends and my crazy family that I love so much.

here we are in all our glory

Being back in Provo has its perks though, like being greeted by not one but TWO new Entertainment Weekly's (one of which features RDJ on the cover), a letter from one of my favorite missionaries, and pumpkin cheesecake with the best former roommate ever!

Still can't wait till Christmas...

High schoolers do NOT look like this

Here is a picture of Jon Hamm in high school. Holy crap.
  • hot
  • clearly has always been hot, like Abercrombie hot
  • funny on "30 Rock"
  • best friends with PAUL RUDD, and, according to Entertainment Weekly, the two studs get together and play chess. (I could make a list of great things about Paul Rudd, thing I would include: it was his idea for Steve Carell to yell, "Kelly Clarkson!" during the 40 Year Old Virgin chest wax scene.)

And that's why he's on my List.

This time last year...

This week (starting November 16th, which is also Carly J. Curtis' 22nd birthday!) last year we were off to Paris, a land of crepes great and small, gelato, a Jeff Koons explosion all over Versailles, Coolpix wonders (like this one^), and Alex nearly getting left in France.

I am so so so SO excited to go home for Thanksgiving! I just miss the days when "home" meant 27 Palace Court W24LP England, U.K.

No one ever told me about this

Were you aware of this? An iPod with the HOGWARTS CREST ENGRAVED ON THE BACK?!?!?!? Apparently these were available in 2007 to people who also bought the HP audiobooks. I would have done this, had I been aware. Raaaarghhhhhhhh

Worming its way into my personal Top 10

Last night we saw this at the dollar theater... I don't think I can explain well enough how much I loved this movie. Everything about it was completely rockin. Here are the Oscars it is going to win:
  • Best Supporting Actress: Melanie Laurent
  • Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz
  • Best Original Screenplay
  • Best Director: Quentin Tarantino

Well that's how it should be at least. And I haven't seen enough of the potential Best Picture nominees, and there will be ten of them (ten!), so I'm not going to throw that around lightly. Yet.

If I asked Tarantino to choose the music for the soundtrack of my life, do you think he would? Pulp Fiction had about the most face-meltingly AWESOME soundtrack I've ever heard. "Son of a Preacher Man" is now one of my most hard A jams, seriously. Plus I imagine I have legs that go on for days even when I'm barefoot like Uma's when I listen to it.

Even though I definitely do not; mine are more reminiscent of the thumb-thumbs from Spy Kids, which is still related to Basterds because that movie is directed by Robert Rodriguez, who obviously collaborated with QT on Death Proof/Planet Terror. The problem with me is that I don't explain my constantly derailed train of thought out loud, thus making the things I do say out loud seem totally non sequitur.

Oh Rexy you're so sexy

I'm riding dirty to Rexburg, Idaho tomorrow! Claire and I will finally be reunited with Carly and Cami...and yes I'm aware that the majority of my friends' names start with C.

the four of us, June 2007

PS: 10 points to Gryffindor if you know what movie this post title comes from...

I've got the willpower of that 1000 lb Mexican man I saw once on TLC

  • Batman Returns
  • Bewitched
  • Overboard
  • The Shining
  • Dodgeball
  • Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
  • Knocked Up
Also "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," but this is obviously not a movie.

CURSE YOU CABLE TELEVISION! I've seen Dodgeball like a trillion times, and Bewitched isn't even that good!

(Except for that "Wherefore art thou dog" scene, which is admittedly funny)

Holla-ween (see what I did there)

Another Halloween has come and gone! The week was full of season-appropriate cinematic gems.

  • Hocus Pocus (3 times)
  • Paranormal Activity
  • Edward Scissorhands (2 times)
  • Beetlejuice (2 times)
  • The Stepfather (sucked, no matter how hot Penn Badgley is)
  • Batman Forever, Batman (according to ABC Family, these are Halloween movies. But they also think Harry Potter movies are Christmas movies, so...)
  • Bewitched (is this a Halloween movie? More than Edward Scissorhands, probably)
  • Halloweentown (will always suck)
  • Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas

Pretty thorough, I'd say.

Then came the costumes...Alex, Nikki, and I were Mario Kart-ers: Yoshi, Toad, and Peach, respectively. Lauren was sometimes a rabbit, sometimes Minnie Mouse.

We adopted this spider cake

The paparazzi (aka Coolpix's timer setting) snagged some pictures of us. Please observe how rockin our Karts are.
It makes me think of other Halloweens I've celebrated thus far in my college career...

Captain Hook in London, Halloween 2008
(a contender for the title of Best Day of Jordyn's Life)

And then Halloween 2007, when we tried to be ice dancers. We looked more like cocktail waitresses (at best).

Now I'm freek-a-leekin' about my favorite time of year (Thanksgiving, my BIRTHDAY, and Christmas) which is just around the riverbend!
